Year End Review

It’s too fast. That’s all I can say for 2018. A lot of things happened, and still I am excited for what 2019 has in store.

Of dreams coming true:

In 2018, I finally decided to apply to med school. Yeah, that freaking difficult road. An opportunity appeared and I grabbed it. I was initially very much torn if I should pursue it because of financial considerations, but I still took the plunge. I just found myself filing for the March 2018 NMAT. I tried to squeeze in as much studying as I can, and got a good enough score to be one of the top applicants in my med school of choice. Pats self in the back. If it’s for you, it will be for you indeed. If you just tell the universe what you want, work for it, ask for help, and pray earnestly, your dreams will chase you.

I tried my best to get a platinum award (for top employees) so that I’ll have a financial cushion while I transition to med school, and that I did. It really helped me stay afloat during difficult times in school when I just have to destress. I also got a silver award for Circle of Values, an award for employees exhibiting good attitude, excellence and exemplary work ethic. Thank you to my dear friend Coddy for nominating me. My last few months at work were indeed memorable.

Dance

I joined the Masskara Festival dancers for a street dance competition and we won. I had such a great time rekindling my love for dance and it just made my artistic soul do somersaults.

Humanitarian Work

Thanks to my wonderful work, I got to visit Iram, Zambales Aeta community, Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), and Aroma, Tondo. All of which made me wake up more inspired to do something and change something in the society. These activities also solidified my choice to become a medical doctor.

Music

Finally, I joined a singing contest just to test how it feels like to sing onstage and compete. It was fun and exhilarating. Indeed, music will always be a part of my roller coaster life.

While writing this I realised that I work better when juggling a lot of stuff. So hello, I think I’ll be joining Sanggawad next year cause I manage shit better when I’m doing something else. It’s weird but it’s true.

What didn’t work:

I got lazy and I froze on the first sem of med school. It was really hard for me to study after working for four years. I wasn’t as sharp. But still I passed all my subjects.

Regardless, I need to work on my discipline in managing my time. I also have to find ways to manage my stress and emotional turbulence. I’m willing to let go of habits that don’t serve me: too much social media, overthinking, and laziness.

Be a better you Kate.
