Sad stories part 1: The Rule

“Why what happened between the two of you?” my friend Leo asked.

“He changed,” I said.

“What do you mean he changed?”

“He wasn’t as nice and caring as he was before.”

“Do you know the reason behind?”

“I asked him why he changed and he said he’s just like that. That his normal self was the aloof, distant, and quiet persona. And I’m good with that reason.”

“You asked the wrong question. Why did you change is different from what made you change.”

I got silent. Leo hit a nerve. I didn’t ask him that question, and probably because I was afraid of the answer.

He asked me again, “Why did he change?”

“Honestly, I really don’t have an idea. He just drifted away. I can’t make him stay.”

“Can you tell me your story?”

I told Leo everything.

“You are the reason,” Leo said.

I was shocked to hear this from him. Leo is still the most logical person I know.

“I’m sorry, what?”

“You see he won’t change without a reason. You said that he was caring before. When two people like each other and somebody doesn’t get it, they will get along.”

“Why?”

“Because you two are curious of each other. He started caring and he got scared.”

“I don’t think so,” I couldn’t believe at the words coming from Leo’s mouth but it made me think.

“But I could be wrong here.”

“I think you are. ” But I wish you weren’t.

“You broke his rule.”

“I did?”

I did.
